Automotive Tools for Your Home Garage

You can save hundreds of dollars on garage fees every year by carrying out minor servicing and maintenance jobs on your car yourself. Armed with a selection of widely available automated tools, a garage manual for your car, and sufficient time and patience to get a job done properly, pretty much anyone can carry out the routine tasks needed to keep your car on the road and running smoothly.

One of the most satisfying aspects of carrying out maintenance tasks on your vehicle – away from saving money on expensive garage bills – is that you are able to get an understanding of how the car works, and the more you understand about the vehicle, the easier It is to put things right in the event of a breakdown.

Any home garage requires a good selection of automated tools to carry out work on a car. Some vehicles from certain manufacturers have non standard machining and sizes used throughout their construction, and you will need to get automotive specialty tools designed for the purpose of working on that particular car from a motor store. No home workshop is complete without a trolley jack and axle stands to allow you to get under the car and do things like oil changes and exhaust checks.

For most small jobs, such as changing the oil or replacing filters, changing the spark plugs and brake pads on your vehicle, general tools such as a wrench and a screwdriver are all that is required, and these are widely available in most hardware stores. It is a good idea to keep your automated tools separate from other tools you may have, because if you begin a job and then discover that the tool you want to use is missing, it can cause major headaches.

Twenty years ago, cars were much simpler to maintain and understand than they are today. Computerised engine management systems and adjustable fuel injectors are now commonplace, and special automated diagnostic tools are required in order to make adjustments to the engine timing and fuel air mix, whereas in the past, these jobs could be done quite simply.

Areas of the car that almost anyone can handle the regular maintenance of are the interior and exterior panels. Simple scratches and dents to the bodywork are easy to repair using a soft mallet for panel beating and abrasive paper, spray paint and filler for paintwork repairs.

If your car is well used, the interior is likely to start to look tired and dated and in need of a little tender loving care. Thankfully, there are many automated upholstery tools available to help you to tidy up the interior of the car and bring it back to its sparkling best. You can repair small tears and burns on the seats by darning them or applying a repair patch over the affected area. The trim of the car can be brought back to life with a good buffing using a polisher, while using specialist tools it …

Looking Inside an iPod

IPod represent a wide array of moveable media players which have been designed and are sold by Apple Inc. It was first launched in October 2001. The models generally cover digital audio players with a central click wheel to the model Shuffle that uses various buttons because of its small size. The model Nano, a fifth generation, was launched in September 2006. This led to discontinuation of the model Mini, which it stored the data on an internal hard disk. IPod Shuffle and Nano employ flash type of memory for smaller size. These devices also act as an external medium for data storage.

IPod was inspired by the shortcomings of existing digital music players, which were not physically compact and the user interface were not very friendly. Apple assembled a group of engineers and within a year, it unveiled the new music player. It was launched as a product which was Macintosh compatible with a hard drive of 5 GB. Apple used PortalPlayer's reference for its software. The company Pixo helped the music player for developing the user interface. But these were refined by Apple after development. The naming of the device as 'iPod' was suggested by Vinnie Chieco, who is a freelance copywriter. Coincidently, Apple had the name registered for 'internet kiosks', but it never used it for this purpose.

IPod can run MP3, M4A / AAC, AIFF, Protected AAC, Audible Audio book and WAV format. It also introduced the displaying of images ability with PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, and JPEG formats. The 5th generation models can even play MPEG 4. From the 2nd generation model, the software also started working with Windows along with Macs. It does not support Microsoft`s WMA audio format. WMA and MIDI files can be changed using iTunes, a service provided by Apple through which you can view and download latest songs and movies on your device player. IPods having colored displays use texts and graphics which are anti-aliased and sliding animations. The operating system is stored in a dedicated storage medium of the device. Each device player has 32 MB Ram, though later ones have 64 MB Ram. Most of it is used to cache songs through the storage medium.

Apple also added PDA type functionality so that text files can be viewed and an address book can be maintained through a computer. Also, some built-in games like brick are also included. In fifth generation iPod, the brightness of the screen can be adjusted and games can be downloaded from iTunes Store. For first and second generation models, as well as Nano and Shuffle, internal lithium polymer batteries are used and for third and fifth generation models, internal lithium batteries are used. Initially, iPods came with a FireWire connection for charging the device, but with introduction of multipurpose USB ports, they became outdated. Recent models can be charged using USB 2.0.

Many accessories, even by third parties, have been made for iPods. Some additional accessories developed by Apple were sound recorders, FM Radio …

Business Card Cases and 101 Ways to Catch The Public Eye

One of the innovations of advertising was initiated by the Kendall Refining Company when it bought hundreds of Zippo lighters and had the company logo engraved on the lighters’ outer casing. Soon others picked up the concept. The same strategy is used with the contemporary business card cases. However, there are more ways to use this tactic and project a dynamic corporate or business image.

Catch the Public Eye

If you are one of those business people ever on the alert for advertising opportunities, you understand the value of marketing strategies that won’t cost much but will work effectively on the long term. It is not unusual to have business cards in your business card cases – business cards support your advertising campaigns.

The business world is now occupied by younger people and their tastes veer toward the trendy and the novel. Leather and chrome business card cases come in different designs to suit every taste, so these are ideal corporate gifts for patrons and business associates in this category.

Giving away designer business card cases is a smart move to woo more patrons and make your presence felt in a highly competitive market. But do not limit yourself to this type of corporate or business gift. There are other ways to catch the public eye and interest.

How to Survive Advertising Contests

As the business owner, you know your target market. Your advertising should appeal to homemakers if it’s a product geared for household use. If it’s an automotive accessory, it should appeal to all vehicle owners, and so on.

Effective print and online advertising must be visually appealing and contain the necessary information about the business. Hence, everything you give away as business gifts should have these elements.

If you are a small business owner, you can maximize your limited advertising fund by talking to small shop owners – from the butcher to the baker – to give out your business cards to the neighborhood shoppers. You can sweeten the deal with cash and business card cases for their personal use.

Call up local radio stations sponsoring competitions and offer to give a prize – in exchange for free publicity. The popular the radio program, the better for your business because you can reach out to a wider market in your locality.

When marketing a product, make sure you emphasize the product’s value in solving a problem. When people shop for a knife, they don’t look for a multi-purpose knife; they’re looking for one that solves a specific problem. You should be able to make it more sellable than the competition.

Eye Catching Business Gifts

Your year-end business gifts should not be items that will stay inside the bag all the time. Choose gifts that the recipient has to use in public areas. Give business card cases, money clips, and pens. These are not expensive items and can fit into your budget. What’s more, these items are eye-catching.

Business card cases, money clips, and wallets engraved with your …

Learning How Auto Fuses Work

Everybody is familiar with the term fuse in an automobile. The main function of automobile or automotive fuse is to protect the wiring of an automobile. Automobile manufacturers cut the fuse into different lengths. When there is enough energy in a vehicle, it may blow off the radio. In such cases, the automobile fuse prevents the radio from being burnt.

The automobile fuse is the main part of the electronic system inside an automobile. If something goes wrong with the electronic system of a vehicle, the automotive fuse prevents it from burning. Moreover, if the fuse is burnt, the car automatically stops functioning with certain minor changes occurring in the car. Some of the minor changes that take place are:

1. Radio stops working.
2. Lights go off.

Automotive fuse need to be checked properly in case of any malfunctioning. Some may find the automobile fuse in the vehicle easily, while others may have trouble in finding it. The fuse box is usually located near the steering wheel or under the cabinet. You can easily locate the fuse and resolve the problem on your own.

Types of Automobile Fuses:

There are two types of automotive fuses found in most of the automobiles.

1. The first type of automobile fuse is in the form of a glass. It is cylindrical in shape and has stainless steel at the ends and glass at the center.
2. The second type is made of plastic with a link, which acts as another fuse.

How To Check The Fuse?

The user manuals accompanied with automobiles help to check the vehicle on your own. A user manual will guide you on how and where to locate the fuse in the car or any other automobile. Most of the automobiles have the automotive fuse located near the car cover.

The user manual gives you systematic instructions. Once the fuse box is located, read the manual carefully to check the fuse that is nonfunctional. For example, if the turn indicators of a vehicle are not working, verify their numbers through the chart given in the vehicle's manual.

After this, you can remove the nonfunctional fuse by following the instructions given in the manual. You may remove the fuse with your hands. Remove the particular fuse and check if it is blown or burnt. If the metal coil inside is separated, it means the fuse is blown. You need to replace the fuse that is burnt.

When looking for a replacement, you need to look for the amperage rating of the fuse that is blown. It is a bit risky to use a fuse with different amperage rating, as it may blow the fuse again and damage the equipment it is designed to protect. After understanding the replacement process, you can easily replace it into the slot meant for the fuse. In this way, you can identify and solve the problem of burnt fuse yourself.

Finally, at present, with automobiles getting cheaper and cheaper, you can get automobile fuses …

Portable Battery Chargers – An Outdoor Power Source

I love electrical gadgets. I grew up listening to music and was fascinated by radios and sound equipment in general. I'm not sure if I could live without my digital camera and cell phone. Let's face it, we are a technology driven society now.

I also love the pure outdoors and the raw beauty of nature. My wife and I are planning a camping trip this coming July near the Delaware beaches. With that I will make sure we have all the automotive emergency tools in the trunk. My portable battery charger has served us in many situations thus far and we'll make sure to bring it for our trip.

Many automotive battery chargers come with a built-in inverter for an outdoor power source. You can also buy a separate inverter to hook up to your portable battery charger if it does not come with a built-in inverter. With this you can hook up small electrical appliances like radios for some outdoor music. Make sure to read the instructional manuals.

Your portable battery charger may not be suitable when you are hiking long distances as they are usually pretty bulky and heavy, unless you do not mind carrying an extra ten pounds in your backpack! But again, like I mentioned in my previous article, they are also a great night light source for camping. Keep one in your tent for those late nights.

So besides being a portable jump starter for your car battery and an air compressor for your tires these chargers also come in handy for outdoor activities

This is just another great idea I wanted to share with my fellow campers. Trust me I have tons more, but that will be for next time. Until then, always drive safe and happy camping! …

You will need to choose the tools to use wisely, select that part of the garage that is well ventilated ie where there is free passage of air.

All automotive paints are not the same but there are some few qualities that you need to ascertain before you buy the paint for your car. There are two types of contaminants that will need to be cleaned, these are Water based contaminants, such as dirt, dust and bird droppings. Automotive Tools for the Road Warrior

In today's highly mobile world, many spend countless hours and miles traveling in their automobiles for work and vacation. Modern cars are also far more reliable than the cars of 30 years ago. We have begun to take them for granted. We expect them to just work day in day. However, the time to learn the lessons of basic car repair is not on a deserted highway at 2 am on the way up to the ski slopes! Automobiles still breakdown, have flat tires and batteries run out of juice. Most people think that you have to be a space shuttle engineer to even open the hood of a 21st century car. While it is true that computer technology has drastically changed the way engines and cars operate, there are still some basic car repairs that you can perform in a pinch. You must carry some basic automotive tools with you at all times in order to carry them out.

A basic kit with automotive tools does not have to break the bank or require you tow a trailer full of tools. You can go as basic as you want and add more tools as your needs change. The first thing to do is put together a list of automotive tools that you will probably need. (I have included one in this article.) You will be surprised to find that you own many of them already. The real chore is to get them together in one place and carry them with you. You will also need something to carry them in. First see if you have an old duffle bag stuffed in a closet. If not you can probably get one cheap at an Army surplus store. Now it is time to look at our automotive tool list and start collecting them.

Automotive tools for your kit should include the following: set of various screwdrivers (both flat head and Phillips), crescent wrench, pliers, torque wrench, pocket knife, jumper cables, battery terminal brush, spare fuses, 1 quart of oil, duct tape , flashlight, gloves, medical kit, road flares, reflective vest, blanket and funnel. Make sure your car jack and tire iron are in their proper place in your car's trunk. The Different Types Of Thermometer And Their Use

There are many different types of thermometer on the market. Whether you’re checking the temperature of food and drinks, monitoring room or outdoor temperatures at the workplace, choosing a thermometer for a child’s medical kit, or taking critically important industrial measurements, it’s vitally important to choose the thermometer(s) best suited to the job at hand.

In today’s market, more thermometers are used without firstly being checked for traceable accuracy, or suitability of purpose, yet the accuracy and suitability of your thermometer to its intended application could be the difference between passing and failing a health & safety audit, wasting a whole industrial process, or being correct the first time.

When you’re choosing a thermometer, it’s important to understand its associated application, temperature measurement range, resolution, accuracy, and the maintenance required to achieve repeatable measurements. Some applications will require you to achieve a much more accurate reading than others. You’ll also need to consider the environment in which the thermometer is used. In a professional environment, the accuracy of your reading will ultimately affect the credibility of your future measurements, and organisation as a whole.

So, let’s briefly consider the types of thermometer on the market, and their accredited application(s).

Traditional Thermometers (Spirit Filled)

Often the cheapest and most popular type of thermometer, these are ideal for use at home or in non-specialist environments where traceable accuracy is not required. They have a spirit level indication, are easy to read, and typically measure in both degrees C and degrees F. They can often be wall mounted or submerged in liquids, and require very little maintenance. These thermometers have variable measurement ranges, resolutions and accuracy.

Dual Sensor / Multiple Sensor Thermometers

Often used in a professional environment, these thermometers allow the simultaneous monitoring of two or more environments over both short and long periods of time. They are ideal for applications such as indoor and outdoor temperature comparisons, the monitoring of storage areas, and classroom maintenance. A package normally consists of a main display unit and external temperature sensors. Each external sensor reading is displayed on the main unit. The main unit can typically be wall or desk mounted, and traceable accuracy is recommended. These thermometers have variable measurement ranges, resolutions and accuracy.

Irreversible Temperature Labels

Temperature indicator labels are self-adhesive temperature proofing foils. They are ideal for use in processes where specific temperature values need to be achieved, such as sterilisation. They are also suitable for use where temperature values should not be exceeded, such as engine or bearing monitoring. They are a relatively cheap, yet effective way to achieve permanent records of accuracy. Each foil segment on a label is sensitive to a different temperature and when exposed to its rating will turn black. Each segment has both °C and °F temperature values. Each label is oil and water resistant, and the colour change is irreversible even after the object being measured cools down. After use, labels can be removed. These thermometers have variable measurement ranges, resolutions and accuracy.
